Back from obscurity.

Still in New Zealand as last reported. We’re in the process of applying for residence; husband has a steady job and I am steadily making art (while still keeping one eye out for part-time job positions, because a pittance more helps).

Just wanted to revive this site to reveal a milestone in my pysanky-writing career: I’ve done my first ostrich eggshell (base material courtesy of the Wellington Zoo gift shop).

Post labour

It took nearly 20 hours to complete, four times as long as an average chicken egg; I timed it according to the runtime of the TV series I watched on DVD, while hunched in concentration on the floor for hours at a stretch.

This thought apparently horrifies some people, but it occurred to me upon completion that I might carve it up with my Dremel and making pendants and earrings out of the pieces as I’ve seen some people do. Friends have dared me to try and sell it whole on Etsy, so that’s what I’m aiming to do. At first.

Congrats on finishing an ostrich egg. It’s quite an accomplishment and I love those colors.
